The Reptile Room, by Lemony Snicket

The Reptile Room, by Lemony Snicket continues to encapsulate the Baudelaires' story of finding a new home after the fire that left them orphaned. The children started to live with their uncle, Dr. Montgomery, who was a snake scientist. Uncle Monty was extremely loving, and he planned to take the children to Peru to do research. However, those plans were interrupted by Count Olaf when he showed up at Uncle Monty's as Stefano, an assistant to steal the inheritance.

The sequel to the first book was a great way to continue the plot. It was devastating to see what happened to the children after they were finally happy again. Uncle Monty was extremely generous and was a perfect caregiver for the Baudelaire children. It is disheartening to see how the adults in their life continuously fail to protect the kids and give them the love they deserve. I like how Snicket includes fascinating settings and thrilling plot twists that get readers on the edge of their seat
