Fire Force Volume 1, by Atsushi Ohkubo

Volume one of Fire Force  by Atsushi Ohkubo sets up the world of Fire Force. After an event called "The Great Cataclysm" that burns most of the Earth with Tokyo remaining, people are suddenly combusting into fiery monsters called "infernals". The protagonist, Shinra Kusakabe, enlists in the Fire Force, which is a group of soldiers who put the infernals to rest using their pyrokinetic abilities, to discover the cause of the house fire that killed his mother and younger brother. 

The first volume of fire force really catches readers attention with both the world building and introduction of the main characters which was Fire Force Company 8. I found Shinra to be an interesting protagonist with how his smile is usually triggered by nervousness which was caused by the death of his family. With how early on they introduced his backstory and his motivation to become a fire soldier, you feel so invested to see him finish his first mission and smile genuinely out of happiness
