Beastly, by Alex Finn

Beastly, by Alex Finn, is about Kyle Kingsbury who had it all: the girl, the looks, the money, and he was going to be prom king. And because he had everything, Kyle figured he was everything, that everyone should be crawling on their knees to talk to him, because he was so perfect. But that all changes when Kendara, a witch, decided to teach him a lesson and puts a spell on him, "as ugly on the outside as you are on the inside." Now Kyle is horridly deformed and only the kiss from the girl who can see past the face and into his heart, will save him from being "beastly" forever, and hopefully the two year time limit won't be a problem. When I first read Beastly, as soon as I opened the cover, I didn't close it until I finished. That normally doesn't happen with me and books. What was different with this book and others that I read, I honest couldn't say, but it had me hooked! I loved how Flinn took the classic Beauty and the Beast, and set it in modern day New York, and how he captured the looks plus money equals popularity. And the way Kyle reacted to everything about the change, about being brought down from an egoistical and selfish person, to a caring and humble young man, was perfect, very well thought out and planned. This book made me feel like I was part of the story. I felt like I was in the story standing right next to Kyle Kingsbury while he struggled to get a handle on what he now was and on who he was becoming. I would recommend this book to all my friends who have not already read it. It truly is a one of a kind read. -Reviewed by Bella, grade 10.

There is guy named Kyle Kingsburry who is popular, good looking rich and snob to everyone . He thinks he is like a king or something ,that everyone one has to treat him like royalty and bow to him. One day out of no where a mysterious and creepy looking girl arrives to the school and her name is Kendra.Kendra is secretly a witch from the late century ,leaving curses to teach lessons to people. So then the day she arrives Kyle treats her poorly and wrong.Kendra tries to give him chances and Kyle take sit by taking her to the dance, but then plays a joke leaving her angry .There he puts a curse on him and turns him into a beast ,he has two years for someone to truly love him and kiss him or else he will stay a beast forever. There Kyle was disappointment that he fell for her plan and that she was actually in a disguise. He then changes his name to Adrian ,to keep his true identity a secret and moves to a mansion-apartment by himself with just a maid and a blind tutor.Kyle is only able to actually live freely in the dark only ,so people wont see him. When he is out he sees danger,a robber robbing and he catches him.He strikes a deal with him to not turn him in but will that deal help him in his curse?

I like how it was a retale of Beauty and the Beast .I am not crazy about fairy tales, but this is a classic fairy tale said in a more modern way.I would recommend it to anyone who likes fairy tales or a retold story version .This author has many great books that are like Beastly. They are kind of a fairy ;retold.I would also say if you like a bit of romance ,then this book is for you.I thought it was a really great book .Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite classical fairy tale movies and I thought it was going to be childish at first and that I was not going to like it as much anymore because I am older , but it turned out really different .Which was good ,so you really have to read it ,I couldn't put it down.
