Cirque Du Freak: A Living Nightmare, by Darren Shan

In the first book in the Cirque Du Freak series, A Living Nightmare, by Darren Shan, Darren Shan was a normal schoolboy until the night he goes to see the Cirque Du Freak perform. Soon after the show, Darren and his best friend, Steve, get stuck in a serious situation. Darren then has to make a decision that would affect the rest of his life. Will Darren save Steve or himself? This book is for people who like mystery and adventurous books.

Cirque du Freak, by Darren Shan, is about a guy named Darren and his best friend Steve attending a freak show for the first time. Darren is obsessed with spiders and Steve with vampires. At the show, Darren and Steve see Mr.Crepsley a "vampire". Steve is convinced he is a vampire but Darren is more interested in Mr.Crespley's spider. When Steve goes to ask Mr.Crespley about vampires Crepsley says Steve's blood is evil. Darren steals Crepsley's spider and everything starts going downhill from there.

I really love this series because of all the action and mystery. I like how the overall plot is very dark and gloomy. I always loved reading fantasies but this book is one of my favorites. I don't like how everything just happens so fast but I got used to it by the second installment. My favorite character is Steve ,even though he ends up being the bad guy, maybe because he is so reckless. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about vampires that don't have a love story laced into it.
