Growing up on the Spectrum by Lynn Kern Koegel is a guide for teens with autism or Asperger´s as they transition to adulthood. It covers high school, dating, and finding jobs. It also covers the ¨messy¨ parts of life that schools often skip. Written by a doctor and a mom sharing her sons journey, it focuses on gaining independence. It´s unique because it mixes clinical expertise with real, everyday stories about the struggle of trying to fit in while being yourself.

I think this book is great because its written in plain English, not boring ¨doctor speak.¨ It´s super relatable for students because it tackles awkward topics like hygiene and social cues without being judgmental. While some of the tech or dating advice feels a little old since its written in 2009, the core message about building confidence is still really important. Its a solid read if you want practical tips on how to navigate the ¨real world¨ while on the spectrum.
