Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

The idea of a man waking up as an insect sounds not only impossible but ridiculous. Yet that’s exactly how this novella starts. This huge change in a salesman’s life is why it is called “Metamorphosis.” While his parents and sister attempt to take care of Gregor at first, many emotions, such as fear, disgust and shame, make it difficult to do so. Read to find out the fate of this strange creature!

Franz Kafka is known for writing brilliant yet absurd pieces of fiction. That's why it’s so important to read between the lines of this novel. I’d definitely recommend it if you are looking for a story that creates room for thought. This is not a light read and requires deep analysis of the characters’ actions and motivations. It provides insight into the value of a person, shame and the mechanization of our lives. This book is perfect for reading with The Trial, a novel by the same author.
