Voyages in the Underworld of Orpheus Black, by Marcus Sedgwick

Voyages in the Underworld of Orpheus Black, by Marcus Sedgwick which is set in London during World War II follows pacifist and artist Harry Black as he recovers from a bombing and looks for his brother Ellis, who has gone missing. The story reimagines the myth of Orpheus through a contemporary perspective by fusing poetry, prose, and graphic novel art. This eerie examination of war, guilt, brotherhood, and the power of storytelling blurs the lines between reality and myth as Harry vacillates between life and death

This book is a rare, moving mix of novel, poem, and graphic novel. The art adds emotion, and Orpheus's story fits Harry's journey. Pacifism and violence contrast strongly, especially in wartime. The changing formats may be unusual, but they enhance the dreamlike feel. The poetry is deep and meaningful. Deeper, stranger, and more emotionally moving than a typical war story. Honestly the most unique and memorable reading. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes a fast paced plot.
