Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum
Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum is set in the tough Welton Academy, where a group of students are changed by their new instructor, Mr. Keating. In his highly unconventional classes, he encourages them to think, to cherish composition, and to follow the precept of “Carpe Diem.” Inspired by him, they revive the underground “Dead Poets Society,” find themselves, and rebel against expectations. Their growing autonomy, though, has serious consequences.
The book is a moving tribute to difference, passion, and the power of words. Mr. Keating's presence is deep, and the book poses necessary questions regarding conformity and personal self-expression. Pieces of it feel a little rushed, but it's a moving validation of the ways in which one teacher—and one poem—are able to bring about enduring change.
