In Five Years, by Rebecca Serle
Dannie Kohan is a New York lawyer with a steadfast life plan for the next five years. She's successful in her career as she aces her interview and has love in her life as she recently got engaged. One evening, after an unexpected proposal, she falls asleep and wakes up five years later in a completely different reality. She is in a different apartment, with a different man, and her life is unrecognizable. Confused, Dannie tries to make sense of this vision and changes her idea of her life.
Living in NYC has been a dream of mine for so many years. I loved how dreamlike the narration of the city and the overall tone of the book was. Dannie's growth of character is seen through her career-focused and perfectionist character and development through her experiences with love, loss, and the unexpected forces her to reassess her priorities and values. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle was a fun, short read for teenage girls, and I recommend it. The plot twists made the story so interesting and added layers.
