My Life Next Door, by Huntley Fitzpatrick

My Life Next Door, by Huntley Fitzpatrick, is a story about a girl who has looked out her window to see her neighbors, The Garrets, they are everything she always wanted in her family. They are crazy, fun, and affectionate towards one another. The Garrets aren't really respected in there community and are looked down upon because the many children in the house and the mess that is always left in there front yard. She cant help but look at them every night to see what fun thing they are doing now. One day she meets one of the boys in the family and she ends up being part of the family she always admired from afar. What will happen in the end? Will she take her families side or the garrets side?

This is one of the cutest books I have ever read. The main character is very relatable and you feel for her struggles and are happy when good things happen to her. If they came out with a sequal to this book I would read it. The Garrets were so hectic and loving that I wish I knew them. I wanted to be part of their family and hang out with them. All the family member are very likeable. You will get attached to each one when you read this book. I would recommend this book to someone who just wants a fun read that will make you laugh and love the relationship in this book. I highly recommend it.

The next-door neighbors, the Garretts, juxtapose everything the Reeds are. The Garretts are noisy, disorganized and, most importantly, smotheringly affectionate. Every day, since she could remember being brave enough, prim and proper Samantha Reed wished she was a Garrett from her rooftop perch. The dreaming continues until one summer evening, when Jase Garrett climbs up and takes a seat next to her confessing he's seen her all along. The two quickly become enamored of each other, finding their way through their first love. The Garretts welcome Samantha with open arms. She, nevertheless, keeps Jase a secret from Mrs. Reed. Then when an unthinkable event transpires, Samantha is faced with a challenging decision to make. Which of her families should she choose the side of?

I absolutely adored this book. It was a refreshingly original take on the boy-next-door romance novel. I'd have to say that this is definitely a story for high school aged young adults and older. I appreciated that I, as a reader, didn't have to deal with an unlikable and angsty pair of teenagers. The two main characters were rather mature, trusting, patient, and had their priorities straight... for the most part. I really enjoyed the various character dynamics that played out throughout the book, especially select characters like the cute and curious younger George. This book sucks you in so much so that you don't want to put it down since you can finish it within the day. It makes you laugh and it makes you cry in the midst of a few pages. This is a must-read summer volume rating very near five stars.
