Legend, by Marie Lu

A criminal named Day is the inspiration and an enemy to the republic. His main objective is to hide, protect his family, and to run. He is the master at disguise and dead to his family. June, a girl from and bred in the republic, an excellent student and a military person trying to avenge her dead family member. Given a goal to specifically stop Day. Unknowingly join together, adventures with sadness, depression, disease, and a spark of romance. They go through countless challenges provided by the republic. first, it starts off with misinterpretation of identities, next, betrayal, then fighting side by side. All this to protect and to keep alive the people that are close to them.

In my own opinion, I thought Legend, by Marie Lu, was an amazing thriller of a book. what I really liked about this book was the suspense and a new type of society, a different government, different cultures, and the inspiration that the main characters give off. I believe the people that enjoy adventure, romance, thrillers, and action novels would love to read these types of books. This book really made me think what would happen to me and my family if we were growing up in such unhealthy and depressing conditions. This book made me feel that I should help those that can't help themselves and to take care of our decent community. Also, that one should be thankful of the things that he already has.

Legend takes place in the Republic, a place once known as the western United States. The Republic is constantly at war with its neighbors, the Colonies. Fifteen-year-old June was born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts and is considered to be a military prodigy. She is continuously being supported and helped by the Republic's highest circles so that she can become a successful military officer. Fifteen-year-old Day lives a life completely opposite that of June's. He was born into the slums of the Republic's Lake Sector and is the country's most wanted criminal. However, he does not deserve to be one. Even though June and Day both live in the Republic, their lives are extremely different from one another. They have no reason to cross paths until the day that June's brother, Metias, is murdered, leaving Day as the prime suspect. Day is merely trying to ensure his family's survival, while June is eager to avenge her brother's death. June goes under disguise and spends time with Day, pretending to be a loyal friend when she is really planning his capture and death. However, soon enough, a spark lights between them. They uncover the cruel truth about the Republic and the desperate, evil lengths it would go to keep its precious secrets. Suddenly, June and Day become part of the same world and fight side by side, not face to face, with an ever so obvious romance brewing between them.

Legend was a breathtaking book. It was filled with adventure, action, violence, mystery, and love. I personally loved the amazing relationship that June and Day held with one another. It really showed how it truly didn't matter if they were from completely different worlds because in the end love is love and nothing could get in the way of that. They were of course afraid to show that to one another because of how strange and unlikely it seemed, but the suspense and unpredictability of their relationship is what made the book even more intriguing. It really made me feel that fate is real and always ends up bringing two people who are meant to be together, no matter where they're from or what background they have. I also really enjoyed the action and adventure in this book because it was all so suspenseful and compelling that I could never stop reading. I was fully drawn into the book and the incredible story line. Each chapter brought me to life with June and Day's unpredictable and courageous adventures and truly took my breath away. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a nice combination of action and romance.

The book takes place in the United States. More specifically the western coast. The United States has been separated into the republic, colonies, and patriots. Currently the republic is fighting a war against the colonies. There are two main characters in the story which are June and Day. 15 year-old June was born into a wealthy family. June is very intelligent and troublesome at school. In the other hand 15 year-old Day was born into a poor sector into the slums of the Republic's Lakes. In the novel there is a plague going around that is killing people. Day has been reported as a criminal and is being searched. Ever since Day has been missing he has been committing crimes. One day Day went to his old house without being noticed by his family. Every family's house with a marked x on it means they had the plague. Day noticed that his house had a weird x on it. Now Day seeks to find a vaccine for his family. June has her brother Metias as her guardian. One day Metias is killed and June seeks to find the killer of her brother. Both characters find out a shocking truth that led them together.

What I like the book LEGENDS is that the characters live in a different world than a ours. The United states is divided into the Republic, Colonies, and Patriots. The book is filled with many thrilling adventures and dramatic moments. The sequence of the book is genius and the plot is one not to forget. The book is written in two different perspectives which is unique but very creative. I would recommend the book to those who seek for adventure. The book made think that everybody has a motive to the actions that they do. For example one of our characters Day is known to the society as a criminal. Day's motives make him the opposite of what he is classified as.The story is filled with many plot twist that you wouldn't expect. the plot is one not to forget. Overall the book is fantastic and one of my favorite books.
