The State of Us, by Shaun David Hutchinson
The country is in the midst of a presidential election. The Republican candidate's son, Andre Rosario, and the Democratic candidate's son, Dean Arnault get trapped in the greenroom during the lockdown. At first, they despise each other but through conversation, they find out that they got much in common. They form a bond that nobody knows about on an app named Promethean. The first meeting was accidental, but as time goes on meet-ups on the campaign trail become less left to chance and their friendship evolves into a romantic relationship. That would be a happy ending, right? Wrong! Jackson MacMann an independent in the presidential race, hated by all, threatens to tear the nation and their relationship apart.Loved it! The book helped me see complex ideas about sexuality that I'd never would've thought of before. It was a mindblowing yet suspenseful ride. I felt like Jackson MacMann resembled Loki, they both use fear to control others. I think teens would enjoy The State of Us, by Shaun David Hutchinson. This book taught me to come out of my comfort zone from time to time and explore the unknown. My favorite character would have to be Dean Arnault. He's honest and extremely likable. He boasts a wide variety of talents and has a cute professor look. He plans ahead which is an important skill that I yet need to hone.
