Song of Solomon, by Toni Morrison

Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison is about the coming of age journey of Milkman Dead. Ever since Milkman was little he has been fascinated with the idea of flight. As he grows through the odd circumstances of his family life he becomes aware of his family's alleged fortune and wishes to retrieve it for himself. A rude awakening awaits Milkman when he travels to attain his family’s gold but he also discovers the beautiful intricacies of his family history.
The Song of Solomon is a very captivating story that explores the themes of adversity, family ties, and racism in the mid 1900s. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in novels that discuss overcoming adversity and the importance of family history. People who are easily bored by reading and are looking for a captivating book that isn’t a mystery should definitely read The Song of Solomon. Overall, I would say that this book is odd, eclectic, exciting, and a must read!
