The Wide Window, by Lemony Snicket
The Baudelaire orphans are sent to live with their Aunt Josephine who lives on a house near the edge of the cliff near Lake Lachrymose after escaping Count Olaf once again. Unfortunately, Aunt Josephine is a fearful woman, who is afraid of nearly everything, especially water. Count Olaf reappears disguised as Captain Sham and tricks Aunt Josephine, causing her to leave a note faking her own death. The Baudelaires were able to connect the dots of Count Olaf's devious plans, but do they save her?
I really appreciate how Snicket uses setting to captivate readers. Not only does he include a gloomy tone to describe the house on the edge of the cliff and illustrate Aunt Josephine's fear, he emphasizes the wide window overlooking the tumultuous lake during the storm. I think readers who enjoy mystery and suspense would love this book. I would genuinely recommend this series and The Wide Window by Lemony Snicket specifically to anyone! Snicket includes plot twists and I like how everything is linked together.
