Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls

Jay Berry Lee, a young boy, hears that a troupe of escaped circus monkeys is loose in the Ozarks and decides to catch them for a reward. His summer turns into a comic adventure of traps, setbacks, and clever plans, all while his bond with his sister Daisy and his community grows stronger.

Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls is pure fun with a lot of heart. The monkey chase kept me laughing, but the family moments gave it real meaning. It left me feeling upbeat, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants an adventurous, wholesome read.

This story follows a young boy named Jay Berry Lee who lives in the Ozark Mountains and dreams of earning enough money to buy a pony and a gun. When a group of escaped circus monkeys is spotted nearby, he sees a chance to capture them and claim a reward. As he spends the summer trying to catch them, he learns important lessons about determination, family, and growing up. The story blends humor, adventure, and emotional moments without revealing how it all ends.

I think this book is both fun and meaningful at the same time. It starts off as a light and funny adventure, especially with the monkeys, but it also becomes more emotional as the story goes on. Jay Berry is a relatable character, and his journey feels real and heartfelt. I liked how the book teaches lessons about patience, kindness, and what really matters in life. I would recommend it to people who enjoy coming-of-age stories with a mix of humor and deeper meaning.
