Arc of Scythe Series, Fantasy, Newal Shuterman

Scythe, by Neal Shusterman, starts off with two normal teenagers when a scythe comes knocking on their doors. A scythes job is to control the population since dying is a lot less common. So if someone is chosen by a scythe to be killed, he cannot be revived. This scythe that approached both of them took them on as apprentices. But, only one can be chosen to be a scythe, the other would have to be killed by the winner.

This book was gory, had a lot of action, and was overall amazing! The only thing I did not like was a lack of exciting content, most of it was just kind of boring but it peaks up at the end. I did like the storytelling too. It made me feel like I was the main character.  I think this book will best appeal action enthusiasts mostly because of all it's fight scenes and gore. I would give this book a 9\10 and I would definitely recommend it.

The story takes place in an advanced global society, so much so that aging can be reversed, diseases are eliminated, things like car accidents never happen, and there are no more motives to commit crimes. Unfortunately, this cannot last forever, as the population approaches the max carrying capacity of the Earth, and attempts to colonize other planets repeatedly fail. This issue is the reason why there are now scythes, hooded people considered the highest in humanity, tasked with killing(or gleaning) people to smooth out the population.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. A creative idea that was well executed, with an interesting setting and well-written characters made it a great read. This book makes you do a lot of thinking, including what the root of our modern problems are. 'Scythe' still manages to be enthralling and entertaining despite a big theme of killing. I would recommend this book to anybody looking for a fun read, or looking to have some deep thoughts. I had a lot of fun reading this book, and It definitely convinced me to finish the Arc of a Scythe, including 'The Toll', and ' Thunderhead'

The book Scythe by Neal Shusterman is about a futuristic society where death has been conquered, so there is a group of people, the Scythes, whose job is to control the population by killing, or as they call it gleaning, people. The main characters are these two teens, Citra and Rowan, who are both forced to become a scythe apprentice. The book is about all the problems they face during their year of apprenticeship, like challenging their morals, facing corrupt scythes, and so much more.

In my opinion, Scythe is an AMAZING book. I loved how it was so easy to get wrapped up in, and how it was fast paced with many twists and turns. I think people who are into science fiction, futuristic societies, and things that make you think a bit would love this. It gets you wondering about life, and its worth. While it did not make me cry, I really got into it, and was a bit sad when all hope seemed lost (I actually thought there might be no happy ending!). Everyone should give Scythe a try!
