Sea of Thieves: Athena's Fortune, by Chris Allcock

Sea of Thieves: Athena's Fortune
Sea of Thieves: Athena's Fortune, by Chris Allcock follows the separate adventures of Ramsey and Larinna on their quest to discover the treasures of the Sea of Thieves. While on their adventures plundering gold, sinking ships, and fighting krakens, both pirates discover the magical properties of the Sea of Thieves. Using the magical powers, Ramsey attempts to end all wrongdoings on the seas, and Larinna uses them to find new meaning in her voyages. In the end, they find that the real treasure was the friends they made along the way.

Personally, I thought the book was good to an extent. I enjoyed the parallel stories and the eventual convergence of both tales to the same place, as well as the sense of discovery that connects you to the story. However, some of the trials that the pirates had to endure seemed out of place. The story feels like a collection of side quests rather than a story that builds on itself and culminates in a climax. That being said, the world-building and diverse characters help bring the story to life.
